Myspace to lose hundreds of jobs

So on the news today I hear myspace are to make hundreds of employees redundant. It got me thinking when was the last time I logged into myspace? For me it would have to be a couple of years ago maybe even 3-4!?

Thinking how long it had been made me realise this news was not really that surprising. Since the birth of facebook myspace visits must have plummeted. Why did you last use myspace.....?

Happy new year blog readers

Well as we hit 2011 and I wish you a happy new year you have to wonder what will this year bring? Well for me personally it will bring a lot of wedding planning, as I got engaged in Dec. But what new buzz words and sites will pop up I wonder?

Will there be a "new twitter" that we all become addicted to? Not that twitter ever really floated my boat. One thing is for sure whatever the next Facebook is going to be you can bet it will be mobile based and media heavy and more that likely powered by HTML5. Time will tell bloggers ....

My first blog entry without a PC

Well a work friend and I were chatting the other day about our blogs and both being die hard iPhone users justin said why isn't there a blogger app. Foolishly I said of course there is, isn't there lots like all the Twitter update apps.

Well justin it appears I was wrong! But there is at least one that I have found and installed this morning. Blogpress is the name if any other bloggers out there want it for their iPhones. Great app especially for updating your blog while travelling on holiday! So more mobile blog entries from me soon....

Apple unveils the iPad but no Flash support?!

The iPad is here at last and i have to say....I'm not really that impressed. Maybe it will grow on me but I expected more. Ok the battery life of 10hrs is impressive, but for a web tablet computer how can it not support Flash?! This will be up against the netbooks that have already been out there for years from £150 upwards yet its missing a key web feature.

Hopefully Apple will pull their finger out and get this sorted for the iPhone 4.0 update as well as the iPad. It wont be replacing my iPhone yet but watch this space maybe some amazing apps will come out for it that wont run on my iPhone. Time will tell....

Well as if the iPhone couldnt do enough already, it has now gone one step (well a lot of steps) better than just being able to watch BBC iPlayer! A website call tvcatchup.com has made it possible for anyone with an iPhone to watch any UK tv channel from one website. No App needed! Beat that Apple!

So not only do you get every channel you could ever want in one place so you can watch tv where ever you are its FREE! All I can say is there is a going to be a lot of very happy iPhone owners hitting this site! Dodgy ebay seller have already tried to make a quick buck selling this URL as a product so warn your iPhone owning friends. Lets just hope such a good site stays free....

Good Web Guide announces Website Of The Year

The Good Web Guide has picked travel website Simonseeks.co.uk as the winner of the 2009 Website Of The Year award.

From a shortlist of 25 sites, Simonseeks.co.uk was chosen because of the high standard of its user-generated content. "I especially like the way the user content is organised and that there are standards to ensure good quality content," said judging panel member Yanique Francis-Yalin of Twenga.com.

Web User reviewed the Simonseeks.co.uk site earlier this year but awarded it four stars, as we would have liked more photography and video footage on the site.

Runners-up prizes went to Songkick.com, a gig-tracking website; Findinvestgrow.com, a site for young entrepreneurs; and Shiply.com, which helps you find cheap courier services in the UK and Europe.

Back in the day internet explorer was great, we all loved it because lets be honest we didnt know any better! But as web developers we hate it! Ok hate is a strong word, but let be honest its UI looks dated, it doesnt display PNGs without a mess of color around them, to name just a few of its downfalls!

Great yet another Firefox is coming ALREADY!

We if us web developers didnt have enough browsers to check already yet another version of Firefox (3.6) is being released in the coming weeks! So get ready for some bugs to crop up in old builds no doubt!

But what they have promised is faster loading, while making it overall more stable. Was it really that bad before then? As an IE user I would say yes, but then you are either one or the other! Cough IE cough!
